I stumbled across these pictures I took while I was drawing a self portrait as a dancer. This was when I was running 30 miles a week and weighed 25 pounds less than I do now. It’s making me sick to my stomach. 
I had abs and I didn’t even realize it.

I started playing around with oil paints last night. They make painting SO EASY. I never realized how much pressure I always feel to hurry working with acrylics.

I started to take some pictures of my work, but wasn’t happy with any of the lighting in my house.
I’m gonna wait for a less windy day and just shoot them outside, but here’s a picture of one of my favorite drawings from the semester.

I finally understand the purpose of a self portrait. Artistic moments of clarity are exciting.

I finally understand the purpose of a self portrait. Artistic moments of clarity are exciting.

We were given the assignment to take a self-portrait that we ourselves weren’t in. I decided to work with the idea that while they help define us, our faces aren’t who we are. To show this, I took a photograph of someone else, and manipulated it so their face displayed the structure and proportion of my own. I wanted to be really up front with the process, so I made no effort to hide the artifacts of the manipulation.
